This page introduces artifacts included in the portfolio. The artifact tells the story of how much I have "evolved '' my expertise in the four principal areas of educational competence for UPEI Faculty of Education Ph.D. students.

Introduction to the portfolio and artifacts

ED 7050 - Comprehensive Examination (ePortfolio and oral defence)

When I think about my portfolio, two philosophical questions come to mind: My identity and growth. Who am I, and what am I becoming? To illustrate these questions, I sometimes reflect on the Theseus paradox, also known as the ship of Theseus. The ship of Theseus is a mythical wooden ship that was set on sail for a long voyage. After a while, sailors repaired some of its rotten and damaged planks. Over time and through many repairs, they replaced all the original planks. Is this the ship originally set sail (Barrow & Woods, 2006)? Whatever the answer to this question is, my growth and identity as a student and researcher resemble this ship. This comprehensive portfolio tells the story of my growth. It tells the story of how much I have "evolved '' my identity and expertise in the four principal areas of educational competence for UPEI Faculty of Education Ph.D. students.

I have documented six artifacts that detail my knowledge of theory and research and how I am building professional and instructional competencies. I have included two artifacts on theory, (i) from theory to practice, developing my theoretical and philosophical approach and positioning my proposal, and (ii) the theoretical framework for formative assessment. I have attached two artifacts on my research knowledge (iii) a mixed methodological approach to investigating formative assessment in online education and (iv) digital literacy skills for FE teachers: A book review published by the Canadian Journal of Education. I have added one artifact on professional competency, (v) assisting with organizing a one-day symposium on PEI's literacy and numeracy needs. Finally, I included an artifact on instructional competency (vi) guest teacher: Advanced quantitative research methods, UPEI Faculty of Education Ph.D. in Educational Studies Program.
